ABA Design Review Section, formerly known as the Architectural and Engineering Sections, is now a combined section and exists to promote quality design standards in all areas of state construction projects. Acting primarily as a resource and regulatory body of state agencies, this section is engaged from the initial funding process for a capital improvement, the initial design phase and relevance to agency needs and ensuring that agencies comply with the regulations set forth in the ABA Minimum Standards and Criteria. The Section is responsible for the review and approval of architectural and engineering plans, including review of ADA, fire, and other building codes; site reviews and ensuring that agencies engage the services of licensed architects and engineers. This Section is responsible for establishment of procedures regarding the selection of design professionals services by state agencies and ensuring an equitable opportunity is provided to all; the encouragement of timely and expedient commitment and expenditure of appropriations for construction; establishment of the standard fee schedule for design professional services for capital improvements and the review and approval of design professional contracts; as well as assisting other ABA sections including Building Operations, Leasing, and Construction. We maintain a database of all on-going capital improvement projects.
